What is in store for Thanksgiving this year?

I know a lot of people want to know what this Thanksgiving will be like so I decided to show you what I think we can expect for Thanksgiving and a little update on chances of a white Christmas this year.

What can we expect the week of Thanksgiving??

This is kinda of a tricky question but I have a general idea of what is to come.

First, I see a lot of high latitude blocking setting up during this time frame.

Both NAO and AO go strongly negative which increases the chances for high latitude blocking.

Here is the upper pattern that the models show for the week of Thanksgiving...

You can see a lot of blocking in the poles that which does tend to push arctic air southward into the United States and this supports a trough in the Central and Eastern United States that would create cold from Colorado eastward....

Also, with this cold likely to settle in there is a better potential for winter storms to develop during Thanksgiving as there is a great cold source. This is just a general idea but the GFS does show a winter storm the day before Thanksgiving. Something to watch closely!
